Jane is the mother of two, a native New Yorker and a civil rights advocate. She has written 50 often controversial articles on Yemeni internal affairs and is well known in Yemen. Armies of Liberation is banned by the Yemeni goverment for in-depth reporting on sensitive topics including corruption, terrorism and torture. Jane was profiled by the New York Times for her advocacy efforts on behalf of Yemeni journalists, notably Abdulkarim al-Khaiwani.

Jane authors a semi-annual country report, a threat assessment, is a contributing editor at World Press.org, a staff writer for The Long War Journal, a co-blogger at Jawa and has been published by newspapers in the Middle East, the US and Yemen in English and Arabic. She has been cited by a variety of experts and reports, vilified by the governmental media and described by the Economist Intelligence Unit as “a renowned anti-government blogger”.
Armies of Liberation.com was established in March 2004 and is a source for original reporting, analysis and the context of current events in Yemen. The site is also a hub for civil rights advocacy on behalf of of individuals and groups. Armies of Liberation is assisted by the American blogging community’s technical assistance, promotional efforts and encouragement. Hundreds of right of center websites and readers joined a grass roots effort on behalf of al-Khaiwani under the auspices of The Hands Across the Middle East Support Alliance, which also promotes civil rights in Yemen. In 2008, Armies of Liberation was a Deutsche Welle finalist in the Best Of the Blogs (BOBs) category Best Press Freedom Blog. A second site, Jane’s Articles, is a repository for published articles.
